How to Root Alcatel OT-990 (Froyo and Gingerbread)

Now supports Gingerbread!
"Rooting" your device means obtaining "superuser" rights and permissions to your Android's software. With that you gain the ability to load custom software (ROM's), install custom themes, increase performance, increase battery life, and the ability to install software that would otherwise cost extra money (ex: WiFi tethering). Rooting is essentially "hacking" your Android device.
Root for 2.3.4 version (Gingerbread)
Requirements
Steps
  1. Download Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip and copy to SD Card.
  2. Reboot into Recovery.
  3. In the Recovery select the following options: install zip from sdcard, then choose zip from sdcard, find and select Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip, then confirm with Ok/yes.
  4. When the installation is complete, return to the main menu and select reboot system now.
Now you have root access :)

Root for 2.2.2 version (Froyo)
Requirements
  • Drivers installed.
  • Super One Click.

Steps
  1. Install the drivers, you can intall Alcatel Android Manager.
    1. You must have turn ON usb debugging in your phone, go to: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Usb debugging...
    2.  Make sure there is connection between your phone and PC.
  2. Download Super One Click and extract it anywhere.
  3. Now run SuperOneClick.exe (Run as administrator if you have vista or seven).
  4. Then click the Root button and let the program finish... And you are done.

Now you are ROOT!
Enjoy it.

  3. hey there, love your blog, lots of info... I used to be an iphone user, and decided to give android a try. all goes smoothly this far, EXCEPT one thing... browsing the web sucks, websites just dont load propperly!
I dont know how to explain it, but they just seem odd, they dont use the whole screen, specially text seems to be an issue. I could show you screen captures or something if I just knew how to do it... any ideas what the problem might be?
Again, thanks for your website. Cheers!

  6. I have a question here, would it affect the original rom once i installed this to my OT990? I mean let's say something mess up is it reversible to re-install the original rom from the back up? Has anyone tried this already? How's the phone after successfully rooting? Is the android market still ok? the browser? the functionality and performance? I don't wanna mess up my phone without any concrete review that this one really works like a charm. Better to be sure than sorry (Bricked phone)....
