How to: Upgrade Alcatel OT-990 to Gingerbread

Finally, after months of waiting, we can enjoy the most popular Android version: Gingerbread for our phones. It is an unofficial update and it is possible thanks to XDA developers. The update is originally from Hungary and has the following languages: Basque, Catalan, Deutsch, English (UK, U.S.), Spanish, French, Galician, Italian, Magyar, Nederlands, Português, Româna, Türkçe.
I'm not responsible for bricked phones or any damage caused by your own actions. It worked for me, but its functionality is not fully tested, so there could be bugs. You're doing it at your own risk.

Yo will also lose your warranty.

Backup everything before you proceed.

Requirements

Steps
  1. Extract the PACK1.rar, and move the files: recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-ot990.img, RecoveryManager_v0.34b.apk and update.zip (don't unpack this file) to the root of SD Card.
  2. Turn off the phone... When it is off, get into fastboot mode (turning on the phone with the volume down button pressed, release the button a few seconds after it vibrates, don't let the android logo appear).
  3. Connect the phone to your computer via USB.
  4. Extract the PACK2.rar, and run install.bat and wait for the process finishes. If everything went well, the DOS window will close and the phone will restart. When it restarts, it will display the battery charging screen.
  5. Press a few seconds the power button and disconnect the USB cable, the phone will show the setup wizard... When you finish the setup, your phone will have a rooted 2.2 version (from Hungary).
  6. Allow non-market applications to be installed by checking 'Unknown sources' in Settings -> Applications, then go to file manager and install RecoveryManager_v0.34b.apk.
  7. Open Recovery Manager and go to the Recovery tab, then Install Recovery and wait some seconds...
A window will pop up and you must select the file: recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-ot990.img, press OK, then select Reboot Into Recovery option.
  8. When the phone get into recovery mode, select the second option: apply sdcard:update.zip. Confirm the action when prompted. Wait until it finishes and then choose the option: reboot system now.
You can move through the Recovery with the volume buttons, and select an option with the Home button.
  9. The reboot will be slow (4 minutes approx) and again will display the setup wizard, do it again and  turn off the phone.
(After you select the keyboard, it probably display an error to force close)
  10. Get into Fastboot mode and connect the phone to your computer via USB.
  11. Extract PACK3.rar, and run install.bat and wait for the process finishes. If everything went well, the DOS window will close and the phone will restart. When it restarts, it will display the battery charging screen.
  12. Press a few seconds the power button and disconnect the USB cable, the phone will show the setup wizard... When you finish the setup, your phone will have a virgin 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) version (from Hungary).

That's it, enjoy your Gingerbread phone :D

Special thanks to: sigprof and qltsar for making this possible.

  11. I have a question.
Why is the difference between :
    Step 9 : Android 2.3.4 version
    and
    Step 10-11-12 : another Android 2.3.4 version
Can I stay to the Android version STEP 9 ?
    Thank you very much.

  22. HttP://x-ewra.blogspot.com is the best place to get help for your bricked phones. It looks like it is the blog of the Ewra project developer

  23. Hi guys if your phone is bricked you should reinstal the default 2.2 telenor rom, its not over if you brick ur phone, i did to but i managed to downgrade to 2.2 then install the 2.3.4 version.

  24. SOLUTION for BRICKED ppl.

1- Download Alcatel One Touch Upgrade Q 1.9 (install on ur PC)
2- While ur phone is OFF ... Press the HOME and WHILE you are holding it, connect your Phone to your PC via USB.. (Some drivers will start automatically installing... let them finish)
3- Run Alcatel One Touch Upgrade Q 1.9 and follow the steps on screen... BE PATIENT.. (throughout the process your phone's screen will probably remain black but do not worry... it worked this way for me)

NOTE: This will ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA but it will get your phone up and running!

    good luck!
